The Metcalfe by Gray Collection Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Metcalfe by Gray Collection, you immediately get that boutique hotel vibe — it’s polished without being stuffy, which honestly feels perfect for Ottawa. The lobby has this sophisticated yet approachable atmosphere that sets the tone for the whole experience. You can tell this four-star property takes itself seriously, but there’s nothing pretentious about it. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing, and I mean that in the best way possible.
Prime Downtown Location
Here’s the thing about 123 Metcalfe Street — you’re literally in the sweet spot of downtown Ottawa. Parliament Hill is just a few blocks away, and you can easily walk to the Rideau Centre when you need some shopping therapy. What I really appreciate is how couples seem to love this location (they rate it 9.6 out of 10), and honestly, I get it. You’re close enough to everything that matters but tucked away on a quieter street, so you’re not dealing with constant traffic noise. Plus, having private parking available is actually a big deal in this part of the city — trust me on that one.
The Room Experience
The rooms at The Metcalfe strike that perfect balance between modern comfort and classic style. You’ll find thoughtful touches throughout — good lighting for actually reading, decent workspace if you need to get some work done, and bathrooms that feel more spacious than you’d expect. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the blackout curtains actually work, which matters more than you might think when you’re trying to sleep in a new city. It’s clear they’ve put real thought into what travelers actually need.
Neighborhood Insights
What I love about staying here is how connected you feel to Ottawa’s rhythm. The ByWard Market is an easy stroll away — perfect for grabbing coffee or exploring local restaurants. You’re also within walking distance of the National Arts Centre if you’re into theater or music. During winter (and let’s be real, Ottawa winters are no joke), you’ll appreciate not having to venture far for good dining options. The area feels safe for evening walks, and there’s always something happening nearby without the chaos of being right on the main tourist strips.
Why Guests Love It
With an 8.8 rating, The Metcalfe by Gray Collection clearly knows how to keep people happy. It’s that rare hotel that manages to feel both professional and personal — you get the service level you expect from a quality four-star property, but it doesn’t feel corporate or cookie-cutter. The location score of 9.6 speaks for itself, but what really makes this place work is how it fits into Ottawa’s downtown scene. You’re not just staying somewhere to sleep; you’re positioned to actually experience the city the way locals do, just with better amenities and someone to make your bed.
Early hotels booking in Ottawa secures Canada Day fireworks, river cruise seats, and chef’s table dinners in heritage mansions.

Natasha from France (9/10)
The impeccable and friendly service of the staff. Our housekeeper on the 5th floor was lovely and helpful all week, as were the front desk and restaurant staff (hurrah for the bartenders who made great lattes with big smiles on each morning!). The lobby plants were stunning as well, and the beds more comfortable than mine at home.
