Arc The Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Arc The Hotel on Slater Street, you immediately get that downtown energy — this four-star property sits right in the thick of things in Ottawa. The lobby has this modern, understated vibe that doesn’t try too hard, which I honestly appreciate. You know what struck me? The staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out, not just the tourist spots everyone mentions. The attention to detail in the design creates an inviting atmosphere that sets the tone for your entire stay.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s the thing about this spot — couples absolutely love it here, and I can see why. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just numbers on a page; you’re literally steps from Parliament Hill and the Rideau Canal, but also close to those little cafés and shops that locals frequent. I mean, you can walk to the ByWard Market in about ten minutes, and there’s actually parking right at the hotel, which is pretty rare for downtown Ottawa. Trust me, if you’re driving in, you’ll appreciate not circling blocks looking for a spot. The neighborhood offers endless exploration opportunities within walking distance.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was well-designed without being flashy — clean lines, decent space, and a window that actually opened (small detail, but it matters). The beds are comfortable, and the bathroom feels modern without that sterile hotel chain feeling. What I really liked was the attention to practical stuff — good lighting for reading, enough outlets where you need them, and blackout curtains that actually work. Every element serves a purpose in creating a restful retreat.
Breakfast & Dining
Breakfast here is American-style, and they’ve got this breakfast-to-go option that’s perfect if you’re heading out early to explore. The restaurant serves solid food — nothing groundbreaking, but well-executed dishes that hit the spot after a day of walking around the city. I actually found myself eating there more than I expected, partly because the service was consistently good and partly because stepping outside meant dealing with Ottawa weather. The dining experience strikes a nice balance between casual and quality.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the fanciest place in Ottawa, but it gets the fundamentals right. The location really is everything here — you’re in the heart of the action without the chaos of being on a main tourist drag. The staff knows their stuff about the city, the rooms are comfortable, and you’re not paying for amenities you won’t use. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about being able to walk to dinner, catch a show, or just wander along the canal without needing to plan transportation. It’s that sweet spot where you feel connected to the city rather than isolated in a hotel bubble. This hotel delivers genuine hospitality and authentic local knowledge that enhances your visit.
To book a hotel in Ottawa during Winterlude, visitors plan ahead to balance ice sculptures with BeaverTail tastings on the canal.

The location was perfect for our needs. We were in Ottawa for Winterlude and this location was easy walking distance to many activities, the skateway, a wonderful selection of restaurants, including Chinatown, and for all that it was still very quiet
