The location is honestly what sold me on this place — you’re right in Sandy Hill, which locals will tell you is one of Ottawa‘s most walkable neighborhoods. The University of Ottawa is practically next door, and you can easily stroll to the Rideau Centre or catch a show at the National Arts Centre. What I really appreciated was how quiet Daly Avenue stays despite being so central. You know how some downtown spots can get noisy? This street actually feels peaceful, especially in the evenings. The neighborhood offers excellent access to shops, cafes, and cultural attractions.

The Room Experience

My room had this cozy, bed-and-breakfast vibe that I wasn’t expecting. The furnishings feel thoughtfully chosen rather than just ordered from a hotel catalog, and there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in for a few days. The beds are comfortable and provide a restful night’s sleep after a day of exploring. I mean, after walking around Ottawa all day, you’re going to sleep regardless, but it’s nice when the mattress doesn’t fight you on it. Each room reflects the property’s commitment to comfort and individuality.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast here is American-style, which basically means you’re getting the classics done well — eggs, bacon, toast, that sort of thing. It’s served in a small dining area that feels more like someone’s dining room than a hotel breakfast buffet. The coffee was actually decent, which honestly surprised me since smaller hotels sometimes skimp on that. There’s something nice about starting your day with a proper sit-down breakfast instead of grabbing a muffin and running. The morning meal sets a welcoming tone for your entire stay.

Why Guests Love It

The thing about McGee’s Inn is that it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. There’s parking available on-site, which anyone who’s driven in downtown Ottawa will appreciate — street parking around here can be a real headache. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay comfortable, and you can tell they know their neighborhood well. Couples especially seem to love this place, probably because it has that intimate, romantic feel that you just don’t get at bigger hotels.
