First Impressions

Walking into the Holiday Inn – Ottawa Dwtn – Parliament Hill, an IHG Hotel, you immediately get that familiar Holiday Inn vibe — clean, professional, and reassuringly predictable. What sets this one apart, though, is the location. I mean, you’re literally steps away from Parliament Hill, and honestly, that makes all the difference when you’re trying to pack everything into a short Ottawa visit. The moment you step outside, you realize how perfectly positioned this hotel truly is.

The Location Advantage

This three-star hotel sits right on Queen Street, which puts you in the heart of everything that matters in Canada’s capital. You can walk to the Rideau Canal in about five minutes, and the ByWard Market — where all the good restaurants and nightlife are — is practically next door. What I really appreciated was being able to stroll to Parliament Hill for the changing of the guard without dealing with parking headaches or public transit schedules.

The Room Experience

The room itself was exactly what you’d expect from a Holiday Inn — comfortable bed, decent-sized workspace, and a bathroom that’s clean but nothing fancy. The windows offered a pretty nice view of the downtown area, though you shouldn’t expect Parliament Hill views unless you specifically request (and pay for) them. The air conditioning worked well, which was a relief during my summer visit when Ottawa gets surprisingly humid.

Breakfast and Dining

The breakfast setup here is actually quite solid — they offer continental, full English/Irish, and American options, so there’s something for everyone. I went with the full English a couple of times, and while it won’t win any awards, it definitely gets the job done before a day of sightseeing. There isn’t a full-service restaurant on-site, but honestly, with the ByWard Market so close, you’d be crazy not to explore the local dining scene anyway.

Why Guests Love It

What really makes this place work is how it balances practicality with location. Couples seem to particularly love it here — apparently they rate the location 9.1 out of 10, and I can see why. You’re close enough to walk everywhere important, but far enough from the tourist chaos to actually get some sleep. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward the less obvious attractions, like the best spots along the canal for photos or which pubs in the Market actually serve decent food rather than just tourist fare. It’s this kind of local knowledge that transforms a simple stay into a memorable visit.
