DoubleTree by Hilton Ottawa Downtown Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the DoubleTree by Hilton Ottawa Downtown, you’re greeted with those famous warm chocolate chip cookies — honestly, it never gets old. The lobby has that polished Hilton feel without being stuffy, and the staff actually seems happy to see you. What struck me right away was how this four-star property manages to feel both professional and welcoming. The Nicholas Street entrance puts you right in the heart of things, and you can immediately sense you’ve landed in one of Ottawa’s prime spots.
Location & Neighborhood
This is where the DoubleTree really shines — I mean, couples rate the location 9.3 out of 10 for good reason. You’re literally steps from the ByWard Market, which means incredible restaurants, local breweries, and that authentic Ottawa vibe right outside your door. Parliament Hill is an easy walk, and if you’re here during winter (which, let’s be honest, is half the year in Ottawa), you won’t be trudging through snow for ages to reach the main attractions. The Rideau Centre is close by too, so whether you need last-minute shopping or just want to escape the cold, you’ve got options.
The Room Experience
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star Hilton property — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the blackout curtains actually work, which is crucial if you’re dealing with jet lag or those bright summer mornings. What I appreciated was the workspace setup — it’s functional without taking over the room. The bathrooms are modern and well-maintained, though nothing particularly fancy. You know what though? Sometimes reliable comfort beats flashy amenities, and that’s exactly what you get here.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast buffet is actually pretty decent — not groundbreaking, but it’ll fuel you for a day of exploring without breaking the bank. They’ve got the usual suspects: eggs, bacon, pastries, fresh fruit, and decent coffee. I’ve definitely had worse hotel breakfasts, and honestly, the convenience factor when you’re staying downtown is worth it. The dining area gets busy during peak times (especially if there are conferences in town), but the turnover is quick enough that you won’t be waiting around forever.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about the DoubleTree by Hilton Ottawa Downtown — it delivers exactly what it promises without any surprises, good or bad. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just a number; it reflects how easy this place makes exploring Ottawa. You’ve got parking available if you’re driving (which is actually a big deal downtown), reliable service, and you’re positioned perfectly for both business and leisure activities. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, but it nails the fundamentals while putting you right where you want to be. For the price point and the location, it’s honestly hard to beat.
Ottawa’s hotels wrap guests in boutique charm, maple-scented breakfasts, and concierge-led Parliament tours.

Due to flight delays I was arriving at very odd time. I relayed the information during a stopover and the staff was present to welcome me upon arrival. Hotel is well located downtown and it is easy to walk everywhere. Night caps from the restaurant located in the hotel were absolutely tasty!

The staff, room and breakfast were all good.
Paula from Canada (9/10)
Breakfast was great. The room was good except a little crowded with furniture. Location for shopping and tourist attractions was excellent. I've stayed there a few times before (under the Novotel name) and will stay there again when coming to Ottawa. Nothing changed except the name; all remained a great place to stay.
Richard from Australia (8/10)
Well located for dinning and the icon attractions of the city
Karl from Canada (8/10)
Location was good – central to many restaurants and pubs, etc and also the major tourist attractions
Good restaurant on site, buffet breakfast was $30pp, definitely overpriced!
