DoubleTree by Hilton Ottawa Downtown Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the DoubleTree by Hilton Ottawa Downtown, you’re immediately struck by how this four-star hotel manages to feel both polished and welcoming. The lobby has that classic Hilton warmth — you know, the kind where the staff actually remembers your name by day two. What really caught my attention was the location on Nicholas Street, right in the heart of Ottawa‘s downtown core. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the Rideau Centre and a quick walk to Parliament Hill. The hotel’s prime positioning makes it an ideal base for exploring the nation’s capital.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, the location is probably the hotel’s strongest selling point — and the 9.1 location score backs that up completely. You’re in the ByWard Market area, which means you’ve got some of the city’s best restaurant and nightlife right at your doorstep. The Rideau Canal is just a few blocks away, perfect for those morning jogs or evening strolls. What I really appreciated was how walkable everything felt — the National Gallery, Notre-Dame Cathedral, even the Supreme Court building are all within easy reach. Couples seem to get this too, rating the location 9.2 for romantic getaways.
The Room Experience
The room itself strikes that sweet spot between business-friendly and comfortable. You get the signature DoubleTree bedding (which is actually pretty great), a decent workspace if you need to catch up on emails, and windows that give you glimpses of the city. The bathrooms are well-appointed — nothing fancy, but everything works perfectly. I particularly liked the blackout curtains, which come in handy during Ottawa’s bright summer evenings when the sun doesn’t set until after 8 PM. Modern amenities blend seamlessly with thoughtful design touches throughout.
Breakfast & Amenities
The breakfast buffet is solid — not groundbreaking, but it gets the job done with a good mix of hot and cold options. You’ll find the usual suspects like scrambled eggs and bacon, plus some healthier choices that actually taste decent. The coffee is better than most hotel offerings, which matters more than you’d think when you’re starting your day. There’s parking available on-site too, which is honestly a relief in downtown Ottawa where street parking can be a real headache. The convenience factor here really sets this property apart.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back is really the combination of reliability and location. This isn’t the flashiest hotel in Ottawa, but it delivers exactly what it promises — clean rooms, friendly service, and a spot that puts you right in the middle of everything worth seeing. The 8.0 overall rating reflects that consistency perfectly. Whether you’re here for business meetings on Parliament Hill or exploring the museums and galleries, you’ll appreciate not having to trek across the city every time you want to drop off your shopping bags or grab a quick rest. The DoubleTree consistently exceeds expectations for discerning travelers.
Ottawa’s hotels wrap guests in boutique charm, maple-scented breakfasts, and concierge-led Parliament tours.

Due to flight delays I was arriving at very odd time. I relayed the information during a stopover and the staff was present to welcome me upon arrival. Hotel is well located downtown and it is easy to walk everywhere. Night caps from the restaurant located in the hotel were absolutely tasty!

Paula from Canada (9/10)
Breakfast was great. The room was good except a little crowded with furniture. Location for shopping and tourist attractions was excellent. I've stayed there a few times before (under the Novotel name) and will stay there again when coming to Ottawa. Nothing changed except the name; all remained a great place to stay.
Richard from Australia (8/10)
Well located for dinning and the icon attractions of the city
Karl from Canada (8/10)
Location was good – central to many restaurants and pubs, etc and also the major tourist attractions
Good restaurant on site, buffet breakfast was $30pp, definitely overpriced!
