Best Western Plus Gatineau-Ottawa Downtown Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Best Western Plus Gatineau-Ottawa Downtown, you immediately get that feeling of a hotel that knows what business travelers need — but honestly, it works just as well for tourists. The lobby has this modern, clean vibe without being sterile, and the staff actually seems to care about getting you sorted quickly. I mean, when you’re dealing with the Quebec-Ontario border area, you want a place that understands both sides of the river, and this four-star property definitely gets it.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about staying in Gatineau instead of Ottawa proper — you’re literally minutes from Parliament Hill and the ByWard Market, but you’re not paying downtown Ottawa prices. The hotel sits right on Rue Laurier, which is actually perfect because you can walk to restaurants and cafes, plus there’s parking right at the hotel (and it’s free, which is honestly a miracle in this area). Couples seem to really appreciate this spot — I can see why, since you get that romantic view of the Ottawa River and easy access to both cities’ attractions. The location truly enhances your stay in this vibrant region.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run Best Western Plus — comfortable bed, decent workspace, and a bathroom that’s been updated recently. Nothing fancy, but everything works properly, which you know what, that’s sometimes more valuable than flashy amenities that break down. The windows are well-insulated too, so you don’t get the traffic noise from Laurier Street, and the air conditioning actually keeps the space at the temperature you set it to. Guests consistently praise the comfort and cleanliness of accommodations here.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here is honestly better than I expected — they’ve got the full spread with continental options, but also proper hot American breakfast items if you want eggs and bacon. The buffet runs until a reasonable hour (not like some places that shut down at 9 AM sharp), and if you’re rushing to catch a meeting or tour, they’ll actually pack you a breakfast to go. There’s no full restaurant on-site, but with Hull’s dining scene right outside your door, that’s not really a problem. The culinary options in the surrounding area are excellent.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes this place work is that it strikes the right balance — professional enough for business trips, comfortable enough for vacation stays, and positioned perfectly for exploring both Gatineau and Ottawa without the hassle of downtown parking nightmares. The recent guest ratings speak for themselves, especially that location score, and after staying here, I totally understand why. It’s one of those hotels that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but does everything it promises really well. This property represents excellent value for discerning travelers.

Breathtaking views of downtown Ottawa
Chang from Canada (6/10)
When we raised this issue with the hotel staff, the front desk agent was very kind and genuinely tried to assist us by looking for an alternative room. However, due to the high occupancy that day, she was unable to make any changes. We truly appreciate her effort.

Onsite breakfast (for a fee) was very good.
Mirosław from Poland (8/10)
The hotel is already a bit old, which is visible in the installations and equipment. But the rooms are clean, the price is OK for Ottawa. The advantage is free parking. The area is quiet, but the bridge located nearby was closed, maybe that's why. You can get to the city center on foot, but the hotel is located on the other side of the river, so it's a distance of over 1 km.
Alasdair from United Kingdom (7/10)
Prompt at resolving issue with air conditioning on arrival. Breakfast was good.
Melanie from United Kingdom (7/10)
Close to lots of local attractions – Canadian museum just across the street- excellent museum!!! National gallery and market area and parliament just across the bridge – easy walking to everything
Ashleigh from Canada (6/10)
Staff was very pleasant, hotel was clean but outdated carpets in the hotels rooms and the bathrooms need upgrading. Booked thinking there was a hot tub in the pool room but there was not upon arrival. There was not enough parking.
