Auberge de la Gare Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Auberge de la Gare on Boulevard St-Joseph, you immediately get that cozy, unpretentious vibe that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something locals have been quietly enjoying for years. This three-star spot in Hull doesn’t try to be flashy — instead, it nails the basics with a warmth that’s honestly refreshing. The lobby has this welcoming, lived-in feel that tells you right away this isn’t some cookie-cutter chain hotel.

Location That Actually Works

Here’s the thing about Hull — it’s technically part of Gatineau, but it feels like its own little world just across the river from Ottawa. The location here is genuinely solid, especially if you’re exploring both sides of the Ottawa River. Couples seem to really get it (they rate the spot 8.3, which is pretty telling), and I can see why. You’re close enough to downtown Ottawa’s action but far enough away that you’re not dealing with all the tourist chaos. Plus, having parking right on site? That’s actually a big deal around here, trust me.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d hope for from a well-run three-star place — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully set up without any unnecessary frills. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-speak comfortable), and the windows actually open, which I always appreciate. You know what struck me? The attention to small details — good lighting for reading, enough outlets where you need them, and a bathroom that doesn’t feel like an afterthought.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast here is one of those continental buffet setups, but they do it right. I mean, you’re not getting made-to-order eggs Benedict, but the selection is solid and everything tastes fresh. The coffee is actually decent — not amazing, but way better than the burnt stuff you get at a lot of places. What I really liked was the relaxed pace in the breakfast restaurant area; you can actually sit and plan your day without feeling rushed.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something to be said for a place that keeps people coming back, and honestly, that’s what sets Auberge de la Gare apart. The repeat guest thing isn’t just a marketing line — you can feel it in how the staff knows what they’re doing and how smoothly everything runs. It’s the kind of place where you check in, settle into your routine, and just relax. No drama, no surprises, just solid hospitality that makes you want to book again next time you’re in the area. For the price point and what you get, it’s actually a pretty smart choice. The kitchen facilities and overall amenities make this a reliable option for travelers seeking comfort without pretension.

  • Kenneth from Canada (8/10)

The facility is old but the room is clean. There is sufficient breakfast. The staff is friendly and helpful.

  • Lan from Canada (8/10)

  • John from Canada (7/10)

Jacuzzi in room, however there was a drip that I couldn't stop and it's annoying trying to sleep.

  • Rafaela from Canada (9/10)

  • Paul from Canada (9/10)

    All good

  • Tilak from Canada (7/10)

    Room was clean and tidy.

  • Amy from Canada (8/10)

The location is good, particularly if your goal is to be near the Hull Hospital. There are convenient public transit links up and down St-Joseph,, grocery stores and pharmacies nearby, etc. some of the rooms have cozy Jacuzzi-style bathtubs.
For the price, the rooms are surprisingly nice. The place isn't fancy — Google Maps labels it as "unassuming" — but it doesn't claim to be.
